How to deal with negative employees.

How to deal with negative employees.

negative employeesFirst of all…stop being one!

Most of what we do comes back to visit us if we are negative. If we complain and moan and groan about things we leave a stain on the listener and they, in turn pass on the negativity to others.

They want attention and they seek validation but they are primarily interested in just one thing…getting relief from what ails them. If you see this in the workplace…be careful…because you will unfortunately be seen in the company of the dreaded office complainer. It is contagious…people will one up each other with “if you think that’s bad…listen to this”The seemingly never ending cycle just gets worse until people are virtual outcasts.

The best way to avoid the office complainer is not to host their visit…look at your watch, tell them you are busy…tell them whatever you need to as long as you get away from them..and if you have to be creative…go ahead..in this case the ends justify the means.

The best approach of all is consistency, don’t expect them to understand you if you listen sometimes and ignore them other times. The die is cast if you ever begin the journey of participating.

Sometimes we think we are helping people by giving them a shoulder to cry on, we want to be compassionate and kind but aren’t we just making it possible for them to continue?

We are enabling them to drain others!

We have a job to do and we never asked to be responsible for the dissatisfaction of our coworkers.

We need to take back control and get focused on survival..things ultimately drain us or energize us!

It is reckless and irresponsible for us to disrupt others at work so we need to be firm and take a stand by not letting others do it to us.

Send a message to the office complainer by not encouraging them and soon you will feel energized and bursting with vitality. The people you encounter will feed your optimism and you will feel your creative energy flowing.

The morale is part of the company culture and you can either increase it or attempt to sabotage it by joining the chorus of the office complainers.

You have a job…be happy!

If you are looking to build a case of why you don’t like your job…journal about it in private…you have no right to assassinate someone’s character by gossiping about others and generally spreading poison..so stop..you are better than that!

I try to conserve my energy for when I need it and in life things will happen and things will change and I can’t worry about being flat footed when the time comes to handle a true emergency that requires my full attention.

Instead, I strive for balance…I am compassionate but in harmony with what is truly important…I do not have the luxury of stopping my work to engage in some manufactured drama…when it is time for my performance review…which will they remember…met and exceeded goals or good listener in the break room?

I am ruthless and compassionate in my effort to survive.
