Improve job performance in workplace Memory and concentration are essential in today’s workplace and any method that brings me closer to information retention is something I am eager to use.
I have a routine that I periodically add to but it always starts with the morning wakeup.
I wake up as soon as my body tells me to and I have used an alarm clock maybe twice in 20 years and both times were when I needed to catch a pre dawn international flight.
There are times I wake up too early and I need more sleep and I roll over until I catch up but I never fight it, if I cannot safely return to sleep in 20 minutes I heed the call to start my morning routine.
I drink coffee and avoid any noise because I need to listen to the silence and feel the temperature so that I mindfully let my instincts guide me. Too much busy work in the morning is a disruption and unless I am eating I don’t have a reason for doing anything but breathing deeply and thinking about the present.
I do this for a fairly long time and after an hour or 2 I will start the next phase of preparation which entails taking Omega 3 which I normally take in the form of fish oil though others like flax seed or krill oil. Vitamins in general should be derived from the food that we eat but though I studied nutrition in college I think it is better to take a high quality vitamin regularly than risk a deficiency from a diet that is somewhat inconsistent. The importance of the mind-body-spiritual connection has been debated since people could talk but one thing is clear…if I eliminate trouble before it occurs I am better able to make room for happiness. The mind is like a plot of land wherein the landscape is either well maintained or not, if there is clutter and resentments is makes it hard for me to be able to grow anything until I pull weeds. The way I deal with resentment or anything having to do with discord is to write it down and realize I have it and then burn it or throw it away so I can make room for more important things to keep in my mind.
The self defeating behavior of storing garbage in our brain is not a good career move and it affects our performance and certainly affects those around us!
How many times have you tried to take on a new project but found that your coworkers took credit for what you did?
It happens…but we are professionals, we put on our big boy pants and do our best because competence is its own reward.
However, it is a trap I have fallen into before…being more worried about the little petty grievances than the big picture…now, I can barely remember what headaches I may have had a week ago, never mind a month ago. One thing is sure, that is things change and if that is true…both good and bad is destined to change. I enjoy a better relationship with everyone in my life when I maintain focus on what is important and my job performance is a measure of that too. I can devour technical information far better if I welcome it into a brain that is ready for business, I have pushed all the garbage and debrisaside to make room and I welcome the new things in life…I wish you all the best as you start pushing the garbage aside!
