How to have better sleep?

How to have better sleep?
The night before the big day and you are worried that you can’t sleep...in fact, you rarely sleep as well as you need to and you continue to carry around a sleep deficit. While others are productively going about their business you are bemoaning the state of affairs. You are worrying and complaining and soon you start to overindulge in things to “take care of yourself”We have all seen it over and over at work, the employee that is late…and hectic and seems to drain everyone around them with their excuses for being late.

In life…if you don’t have time to do it right the first time, you most likely will not have time to redo it after the fact.My experience with sleep has been a life changing experience…What was once an uneasy relationship has been transformed into a solid understanding of how to be in harmony with a crucial part of life.

You will see results depending on the effort you are willing to give…and please spare me about how hard habits are to break…The first order of business is to go into your bedroom and sleeping area and ruthlessly assess what aids sleep and what threatens sleep. Then look at where the doors and windows are and stop for a minute to regroup.

Here is a sort of survey:

I am willing to bet you have a television in front of the bed.

You have several electronics on your nightstand next to the bed.

You have your feet pointed toward the door when sleeping.

You have a ceiling fan in your bedroom.

You have plants.

Your bed is under a window.

You have a desk in your bedroom.

Your bed is against a wall that has the bathroom on the other side.

You have a fish tank in your bedroom.

You keep food next to your bed.

You have furniture where the edges face the bed.

You have a mirror facing the bed.

Well…did you answer yes to more than one of these statements?

If so, you need to seriously think about correcting these things!

I cannot feel sorry for you if you insist on turning your bedroom into an activity center or a place with aggressive energy is interfering with your restfulness. People like their creature comforts and they want the convenience of everything within an arm’s reach but unless you make sacrifices you cannot expect to relax.

I say this because I know…an I went from 2 or 3 hours of “sleep” a night to a solid 7 or 8 hours after making changes.
The list above?
Except for the fish tank I have, at one time or another, suffered all of those maladies.
I will explain a little more…

Whether you believe in luck or superstitions…it is not important..but if you really want to be at peace..consider this…You lay down in your bed and you are looking at the door..a constant reminder that you should be going somewhere or doing something…the desk..same thing…all of the reminders, books, videos, TV shows..etc..all serve to distract you from the business of sleeping.

People sometimes treat sleeping as an interruption to their day…show some respect for sleep..or, more specifically, respect the power of sleep and sleeplessness and you will be rewarded with less stress, more energy and greater concentration.
The other things like ceiling fans and sharp edges facing you?
The fish tank and plants?
Those are key disturbances in Feng Shui…which I would love to write about..but later..not now.
