AWG wire Basic

AWG stands for American Wire Gage which is a standard used for comparison of the diameters of electrical-wire-size in the United States. The larger the AWG number, the smaller the wire sizes.
The smallest AWG size is 40 and the biggest AWG number is 0000(4/0). For wire-size larger than 4/0 AWG, the term "Kcmil" is used by National Electrical Code to define wire's sizes
